The despair of a modern Job

The drug was oval in shape. Just one bite and she will get a few hours break from the panic and anxiety.

"Just do it", she thought to herself; "You can't take it anymore".

And within minutes, she faded into a depressing world in black and white. The car behind beeped, realizing she was in a parking lot. Moving aside, she stopped the car and started crying. "What is the meaning of life?", asked a mysterious figure sitting beside her.

"Not being lonely..", she said shivering. "Come with me", said the mysterious man.

The world had suddenly turned color. "This is your fantasy", he said. She lay on the grass, never wanting to move. The sun shone over her, in a way that she had never experienced. "It's time to move over", he said.

The next room was as dark as it was taken from a horror movie. The memories of old and recent pains were evident, literally turning her into a pool of tears.

In a white hole of emptiness, she sat crying. "What is the meaning of life in your opinion?", asked the mysterious one, but she declined to answer. "Am I a good person?", she asked him, perhaps thinking he may be the human incarnation of a god or one of his angels.

"You are", he said. "So, what have I done to deserve this suffering?"

"There are things that you cannot explain", he said; "You just have to find your own peace", he said, as if he was some kind of a mumbo-jumbo New-age guru inserting himself into a modern Book of Job.

Sitting on the edge of a marvelous Irish cliff, only a few meters were separating her and the great beyond. There is no meaning, she thought; no meaning at all. Her mentor's words, encouraging her to focus on her academic work, were heard in her mind. That was the only meaning left.

She woke up, and things returned to being dull and mundane as always. Too young to hold on, and too old to just break free and run.
